What have you learned about your audience feedback?

My audience feedback has helped me develop my promotional package by giving advice on how they feel it represents my chosen genre. For gathering this audience feedback I decided to create a questionnaire asking about my music video, as well as my digipack. For research on my digipack I began getting some early feedback about what colour scheme or font style to use. I also asked about how it looks similar to a drum and bass promotional package, as well as what could be added to improve the appearance.

These were the charts I created to show the quantitive data I collected which helped me choose the colour scheme and font style which was most applicable to my digipack. Although this was not a very detailed audience feedback, it still gave me some guidance as to what I needed to use for my digipack.

I felt the qualitative data I gathered was from the questionnaire I set up was far more useful and accurate. The responses I got provided honest information which had detail on specifically what they liked, disliked and what I could do to improve it. I felt getting the audience to write down their feedback far more efficient than using a video response, this is so the audience could take their time to answer the question accurately and not stutter or feel pressured to answering the questions. 

These were the questions and responses I got from my audience about my music video, the responses were taken anonymously:

Q1: Did you understand the narrative in the story and the message it conveys?

• I understood that it was to do with the negative use of drugs and trying to convey the meaning that It can badly effect your life.
• The storyline was well laid out and made sense throughout the music video.
• I wasn't too sure on what the storyline was, because the shots were edited quite quickly.
• I understood the story and the message it shows to do with drugs. I did not understand the narrative.
• It was a good music video and showed some similar key elements in similar genres.

Q2: Did our music video suit the drum and bass genre?

• Yes, I felt it had a similar storyline to other drum and bass music videos. 
• I thought that some music  technology shown in the performance could be appropriate, other than that it does.
• No because I don't feel Drum and Bass can suit music videos. Nice video though.
• It did, as it heavily hinted to drugs and alcohol, something you associate with that genre. 
• Yes it did, however there's not a lot of drum and bass music videos as not all have vocals included. 

Q3: How could our video be improved?

• Perhaps add more performance in the video.
• Could use different effects to attract the audience more.
• Nothing you need to change, its good as it is.
• Fix the continuity errors.
• Maybe use a more wide range of different shots. 

Q4: Does the performance look convincing?

• Yes it does, you have captured the attitude of teenagers quite well.
• Very. Teenagers acting teenagers always works well.
• You have got the lip syncing right so yes. 
• The singer could have maybe moved around a little bit more
• Yes I thought it did.

Overall I thought the audience feedback I got was incredibly useful and helped me with my coursework. It allowed me to make easy changes to my rough cut, improving all elements which weren't as strong. 

Evaluation question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

I felt I had to keep a consistent colour scheme which reflects the mood of the music video, as well as the genre. I thought using a mixture of warm colours such as red and orange to reflect the liveliness of the music. But also show the emotional elements the colours show such as anger, or passion. I decided to create a background using triangle shapes of different shades, I thought the geometric shapes reflected the style of digital manipulation other drum and bass albums show. The fonts were selected to match the layout of my Digipack and stand out.

For my advert I thought making the artist in black and white was quite powerful, as it matches the titles and subtitles. It may also suggest or hint a sense of loneliness or rejection, which relates to the song.

For our performance we didn't focus too much on lighting. Our location in the drama room was perfect, we used a large black curtain for the background which gave us a good setting to reflect the feeling of being alone. For the narrative, filming outside we used lighting from the camera show the scene more clearly. Also it showed shadow which gives a negative perspective of teenagers.

Overall I think my promotional package was effective with my colours and font and suited to my chosen genre. It represents the music style of drum and bass and the meaning and definition of our song choice.
